Reach Out and Read Iowa and IPTV Partnership

IPTV and Reach Out and Read Iowa are currently partnering to strategically expand literacy efforts and enhance the literacy-rich waiting rooms at Reach Out and Read programs across the state; 11 Learning Centers were distributed in the fall of 2010 and another 14 more Learning Centers are planned for distribution in the spring of 2011.

Phase I of the project, implementation of 11 of the 25 Learning Centers is set to take place during National Health Literacy Month during the week of October 18 - 22nd, 2010. Reach Out and Read Iowa Fall 2010 Launch locations include:
Cedar Rapids - Cedar Rapids Pediatrics
Davenport - Genesis Family Medical Center
Des Moines - Mercy Central Pediatric Clinic
Iowa City - University of Iowa Children's Hospital-General Pediatrics
Keosauqua - Van Buren County Hospital
Knoxville - Knoxville Hospital Clinics
Marshalltown - Reach Out and Read Marshall County
Ottumwa - River Hills Community Health Center, Inc.
Sioux Center - Sioux Center Community Hospital and Medical Center
Storm Lake - United Community Health Center

IPTV Raising Readers Learning Centers will have a cart of age-appropriate children's materials such as books, activity books, toys, puzzles and more. Sometimes they will include a flat-screen television and DVD player which allows children and parents the opportunity to experience high quality children's programming aired by Iowa Public Television. Literacy-Rich Waiting Rooms provide resources which encourage families to spend time together reading books, watching quality children's programs, and learning about additional ways to have fun together while waiting for their appointment.

Marshalltown Reach Out and Read Iowa Bookend Community Recognition, 12:00PM

Congratulations to the Principal Charity Classic Birdies for Charity Booth Putting Contest Winners!

Reach Out and Read Iowa hosted a putting contest during their Birdies for Charity booth time at the Principal Charity Classic at Glen Oaks. Over 300 putting contest participants were entered in a drawing for a chance to win a Taylor Made RAC Wedge and an Odyssey Two-Ball SRT Putter. The winners of the contest are:
